St. Dominic’s Grammar School is one of the leading independent schools in Staffordshire, inspiring girls aged 3 to 18 and boys aged 3 to 11 to realise their full potential.
With a Christian Ethos, the school is non-denominational, welcoming children of all faiths and religions or none.
The school is located within the idyllic, rural village of Brewood, just minutes away from the M54, linking quickly and easily to the Midlands motorway network.
The school was established in 1920 as a Dominican Convent for Girls, converting to a charitable trust in 1975.
At the heart of the school, is the belief in the development of the ‘whole person’ and we help each child to realise their own talents and gifts, so that they may achieve their full potential within a caring environment.
We aim to develop the pupils academically, socially, creatively and spiritually and can boast a 100% pass rate at GCSE for 10 consecutive years. Our Sixth Form students who took ‘A’ levels in summer 2014 achieved a 100% pass rate, over half of those grades at A*-B with every student being successful in one of their chosen university applications.
Examination success is measurable and a tour of our website will give you an insight into our school’s ethos and facilities, but it will probably not answer all your questions. The atmosphere and ethos of our school is less easy to convey and nothing is quite as good as a personal visit, so why not call us to come and take a tour of our independent girls’ school.
Our pupils are a real credit to us; their confidence, lovely manners and the way they value their education together with their willingness to always help others never ceases to make the school proud.
Our Independent School Inspection carried out in March 2011 rated us to be excellent / outstanding in every aspect.
The report stated:
“The quality of the pupils’ achievements and their learning, attitudes and basic skills is excellent overall. The pupils display excellent knowledge, understanding and skills in both their curricular and extra-curricular activities. The pupils have excellent attitudes to their learning. At all ages, they approach their work in a mature manner and their excellent behaviour further supports their learning. The pupils’ achievements are well supported by the quality of the teaching, throughout the school, which is excellent and often inspirational. The teachers are knowledgeable and show real passion for their subjects.”
Small class sizes facilitate individual attention and enable teachers to build a unique profile of each pupil. The enhanced curriculum delivered allows a number of students to be fast tracked at GCSE level and gives excellent value-added, with pupils exceeding expectations based on their initial entrance assessment and external bench-marking data.
The school’s facilities help encourage independent and investigative learning. Pupils across all year groups are taught in dedicated IT suites, a home economics room, science laboratories, art, design and technology rooms. To further stimulate and challenge, a wooded glen within the school grounds allows for outside investigative activities for pupils from Nursery through to the Sixth Form.
St. Dominic’s Grammar School is renowned for its musical and dramatic excellence. Our state of the art Performing Arts Centre houses a drama and dance studio with sprung floor, a music suite and recording studio.
Pupils are encouraged to join the choirs, play an instrument, take up dance, or sing. Throughout the year there are a variety of performances ranging from the Christmas production, inter house competitions and the all singing and dancing annual whole school productions such as Bugsy Malone, The Sound of Music, Annie and The King and I.
The school also has a very strong Art & Design department, enabling students to study art & textiles to GCSE and ‘A’ level. The pupils’ outstanding creativity is on display all over the school.
The pupilss take part in a wide variety of sports including netball, hockey, gymnastics, tag rugby, trampolining and football.
Our all inclusive extra-curricular programme provides further sporting variety and includes swimming, golf, tennis, cheerleading and athletics with all abilities encouraged to attend.
The sports facilities include a modern, fully-equipped sports hall, newly resurfaced and extended netball and tennis courts and playing fields, which include a hockey pitch, athletics track, football and rounders pitches which are all set in over eight acres of school grounds.
We have an active sporting calendar of events with the pupils competing very successfully with other schools in a variety of sporting events and competitions, with teams and individuals walking away with top prizes.
A number of our pupils represent the county and country at their chosen sport. See our Sports News page to learn about some of our successes.
