Performing Arts

Pupils are encouraged to explore creative subjects including Art, Textiles, and Drama as part of their learning. Skills gained in these areas are often transferable to core academic subjects.

Encouraging visual-spatial skills, Art education showcases the imaginative abilities of our students, pushing them to investigate and challenge traditional processes and practices.

St. Dominic’s is renowned for its excellence in the Expressive Arts. All pupils are encouraged to join the choirs, take up dance or partake in acting training alongside highly experienced staff. Throughout the year, there are a variety of dramatic and musical performances where children of all ages, delight their audiences with superb full scale musical theatre productions.

The GCSE Performing Arts course encourages pupils to work in a production company and perform in regular showcases. A wide range of dramatic material is studied and acted from Shakespeare and Wilde to Keatley and Russell. In Dance pupils are choreographed in various styles from “Chorus Line” to contemporary Street Dance. Backstage training and opportunity is also available in theatrical make-up, stage-management, lighting and sound for a variety of theatrical venues.

Pupils who enter the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) examinations consistently achieve a 100% pass rate – with the majority attaining merit or distinction, in addition to participating in a wide variety of local, regional and national competitions. Pupils also have the opportunity to enter Musical Theatre exams (up to Diploma standard) and can be tutored for entry auditions for drama schools.

Our specialist Performing Arts Department provides an excellent foundation for a future training in the Performing Arts industry, as proved by our current pupils who perform with the UK’s leading performing arts companies.
